TN People First members Charles Hall and Scott Finney were surprised to learn that they were in one of the pictures the Smithsonian Institute is featuring in their online exhibit about people with disabilities. The exhibit, Everybody: An Artifact History of Disability in America features many important items that explain disability history. It also includes photos taken by Tom Olin, a nationally recognized photographer who actively documents many ADAPT actions.
One of the actions he photographed was in Decatur, GA in 1990 where Charles and Scott traveled to with other TN ADAPT protesters. The photo he took of Charles and Scott holding up signs while proudly wearing their People First of Tennessee, Inc. t-shirts is one of Tom’s favorites. This picture is the one that the Smithsonian chose to include on the Citizen Poster that anyone can download for free from the exhibit website. It is an awesome artifact of Tennessee disability history that the Smithsonian chose to include in the exhibit. If you’d like to see the poster, you can also click here: Smithsonian Citizen Poster
